BEAD BALLS

You Will need:

30 beads per ball
Needle and thread
To make larger crystal ball you will need to use fishing line 0.6mm

Row 1

Start by stringing 10 beads onto your thread, tie into a circle (they need to be able to move a little) move your needle through 2 beads away from the knot.

Row 2

Pick up 3 beads and take your needle round through 4 base beads. (2 beads behind threaded exit and 2 in front)

When you pull this tight it will form another group of 5.

Row 3

This round pick up 2 beads, take your needle down through the side bead of the group you just made and through four base beads. (This includes 2 beads that you have previously used)

If you pull theses up you will again see another section of 5 beads.

Repeat Row 3 twice more. This should give you 4 sets of 5 coming off your initial round 10, they will be pulling up to form a bowl shape.

Row 6

Take your needle through the side bead of first group that you made, pick up 1 and take your needle down through the side bead on last round you made, along 2 base beads and up through side bead of your first set again, now take your needle through top bead in last set. If you look at your work from the top you will see 4 other top centre beads, take your needle through all of these to form your last set of 5.

You now need to work your needle through your work so that it is coming out of the centre of a pair of beads on your initial row of 10.

Pick up 3 beads, take your needle back to the middle of the two beads you were just exiting, and on through 2 more base beads. (you will again be in the centre of a pair)

Pick up 2 beads and take your needle down through the side bead in last round made, and along 4 base beads in your initial 10. (this will include 2 you have already used)

Repeat the last sequence twice more.

To complete this round take your needle up through side bead in the first round you made on this side, pick up 1 bead and take your needle back down the side bead of last round made, through 2 base beads, and up through the side bead in first round again, then left or right to finish your ball.

Looking at your ball from the top sew round the 5 central beads to secure. Work your way through your ball a couple of times to stiffen up. Half hitching over your threads helps to secure further. Make sure that you follow your bead path as you stiffen.

Ribbon Necklace.

To string your bead balls simply I used ribbon. Cut your ribbon to length allowing approx 1½ inches for your clasp. Paint the ends of your ribbon with clear nail varnish.

Use a leather cord crimp and place the ends of your ribbon into it, fold one side over and press down tightly with your flat nose pliers.

To get your ribbon through you beads I found it helpful to make myself a looped wire needle. This is just a loop of wire twisted at one end to hold your ribbon which will make it easy for you to pass through your beads.

String your beads in the design sequence of your choice, before placing the unfinished ends of your ribbon into your leather cord crimp and securing.

Onto one side of your clasp use a jump ring to secure a clasp, and onto the other side a jump ring for your clasp to go into.
